Our Art Therapy Process
Session Expectations
At ARTiculate our creative sessions always begin with an understanding of what brought you to art wellness, your comfort level with art exploration, and the goals you would like to achieve. The sessions are an hour long and can be recurring. An art piece may or may not get completed in one session, it may take multiple sessions for your piece to feel complete.
There are four stages during a session which include a Warm-up or Check-in, Creation, Evaluation and Conclusion.
Your sessions will be tailored specifically with well-defined and clear goals to meet your individual evolution of healing and well-being.

We have online or in-person sessions as well as individual or group sessions depending on your goals. We offer sessions for children or adults and we can even supply you with art supplies for your online session as an option.

Healing Through Art Therapy
The practice of creating art by itself can be very therapeutic. During a rewarding activity you no longer need to worry about consciousness or emotions. Your subconscious mind is often reflected in the artwork produced, revealing insights you might not have realized or reflecting difficult situations in which you have trouble verbally addressing. We work with you to coach and guide you towards unlocking these insights and emotions while positively improving your perception of yourself.
Art requires discipline where constraints and effort are required. We are involved in a task and absorbed by our work, we free ourselves from the daily constraints placed upon us. Art with a focus on creative wellness can help us face and explore issues including self-consciousness, addiction patterns, anxiety, and cognitive challenges. Art wellness can make us feel happy and stimulate our motivation to consume.
Artistic Mediums
There are many forms of media to explore during Art Therapy no matter your skill level or your goals. We focus on one media type each session and vary it from week to week so you are always finding new ways to express yourself. Artistic media types include:
Collage with newspaper print or magazine clippings
Pencil and paper
Mindfulness coloring or color exploration in relation to your emotions
Watercolor paints
Acrylic paints
Oil Pastels
Fabric collage and texture
Photography
Clay or sculptural materials

Depending upon your interests and goals, we can tailor the session to include your preferred artistic media as well as incorporating art techniques, art styles, and ways of working through the different media. We strive to make our sessions a highlight of your week to gain insight and happiness.

For online sessions please keep in mind that you will have to provide the materials needed. A list will be provided to you prior to the first session.
Children's Art Therapy
We provide individual therapeutic art and creative wellness sessions for children of all ages, both online and in-person. Art wellness for children involves a much different approach which we will tailor to meet the needs and goals of your child. In our safe, nurturing environment we can work to strengthen your child's overall wellness through the exploration of art. Click here for more information on our flavor of children's art wellness.
Clinical vs non-clinical art therapy
Clinical art therapy incorporates licensed psychotherapy and psychology practitioners to make diagnosis and to determine or begin treatment of an underlying pathology with a mental health provider. Non-clinical art therapy incorporates therapeutic art in service to client to enhance wellness and improve your well being for emotional and personal gains without the clinical diagnosis and treatment.
ARTiculate provides trained and certified art wellness coaches to engage in our non-clinical Art Therapy also referred to as art wellness, therapeutic art, or expressive art with the goal of making art wellness more accessible to all. The benefits of this approach can focus on non-clinical goals as well as give an option to provide a more fun creative environment. Non-clinical art therapy is not for treatment of a pathology or to offer a diagnosis, so if you are in need of such help, please contact your health provider.
Art Styles
In our non-clinical art therapy sessions, we have the freedom to more deeply explore your artistic passions while working on your self-improvement or wellness. Are you interested in Cubism, Impressionism, Minimalism, or Expressionism? Do you want to explore portraiture, landscapes, or abstract arrangements? We can incorporate fun art and art history segments when appropriate into our sessions to help inspire you and open up your artistic expression. This can be done while still keeping a focus on therapeutic painting, drawing, or other artistic creations.
Role of an Art Wellness Coach
Therapeutic art and creative wellness is the practice of using a mindful and positive approach to healing and well-being through art. The role of an art wellness coach is to help facilitate your evolution process of artistic creation, personality, and dialogue through positive change. To help broaden your perception, gain personal insights, and improve communication with others through the exploration of art and your emotions. An art wellness coach is not that of an art teacher or an art critic, although in our non-clinical environment we can help inspire you with or through art. Your work will not be critiqued, your artistic activity is for your expression of mind and for a basis of conversation to help with dialogue leading to self-knowledge. This is your time for artistic expression of self to help transform towards positive change. We will work in synergy with you as an observer and as a witness to your artistic activity to help propel a dialogue and re-enforcement of skills to bring you towards positive change and healing.
Differences between our Services
Personal, private art wellness sessions for adults or children. We will identify your goals, evaluate your relationship with art so you feel comfortable creating. Â Sessions will be adapted to your artistic practice and interests. Sessions always begin with warm up exercise, creation period, conversation about your work and a conclusion.
Children can find it hard to explore their feelings and emotions through traditional therapeutic settings. Art can be a great alternative and beneficial way to help children explore challenges or reinforce positive routine. Techniques for children are different than for adults as we create a healthy reassuring environment to promote wellness and a calming, positive set of skills for children to take forward into their daily lives. Our sessions are tailored to your child's age, needs and goals.
Group creative sessions offer a reassuring environment within a respectful atmosphere where exchange of similar goals and dialogue are recognized. These sessions are good for overcoming relationship challenges, improving socialization, improving your well being and quality of life.  You will build confidence by seeing different points of view and dialoguing within a small group setting where your work is not critiqued however brings meaning and self recognition to not only you, the group as well.
For children who just want to have fun with art but might find access to interesting artistic sessions difficult, ARTiculate provides accessible, entertaining group art classes for kids both online and in-person. The focus is on fun and learning. Want to learn about cubism, how to paint with watercolors or about Van Gogh? We have you covered. For online sessions, we even provide the option for all artistic supplies to be mailed to you to take the fuss and worry out of the class. For children of all ages!
